Management effects on water and nutrient use efficiency
Work package 6 investigates the effects of long-term management options and new technical measures in our field trials (see work package 5) on water and nutrient uptake from the subsoil. For this purpose, carbon and nutrient allocation to the root/plant was recorded and quantified in phase I, and root distribution and development in the field and in profile pits were evaluated using the latest technical methods (e.g. EMI/ERT, hyperspectral analyses). Furthermore, nutrient patterns and microbial and fungal (arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi) activity in the rhizosphere were recorded. The stable isotope techniques developed in Work Package 4 will be applied to trace mineral nutrients.
