Identification of drivers
The aim of work package 2 is to identify the main drivers of resource utilization from subsoils. In a cross-scale approach, process studies under laboratory conditions are linked to Germany-wide data to derive the relevance of different drivers for root development into the subsoil. The work package thus provides the basis for evaluating different subsoil management options under site-specific conditions. In phase II, the meta-analysis of subsoil data from the German Soil Inventory Agriculture was refined, and interactions of fungi and bacteria for subsoil development were analyzed for the first time. Long-term effects of subsoil management were investigated by incorporating respective sites (Treposols, former subsoil management).
